Paani-Aali - Water Bearer Girl

_____________________________________________________________________________________

I cant figure out what triggered off the memory trace regarding the following song. Maybe it has to do with the current heat wave under which New Delhi is smouldering or maybe its the plain rustic tune and the chorus of the song OR speaking the truth - maybe it has to do with the tapori in me.

:-) Yeah I like tapori kind of songs too... in fact, my friends and I have had many a hearty discussions juxtaposed with full throated, gut wrenching, care two hoots for the world and singing, a la cacophonix. (This is a topic for another post with copious comments and everybody's favourite tapori songs)

Coming back to the post - I first heard the song in an over packed, Delhi's dreaded Blue Line bus, in blistering heat, jam packed with people, sweat oozing out of every conceivable body pore, frayed tempers, parched throats and vacant looks.

The song sounded more like a blissful drizzle in the sweltering heat and lifted the spirits up, at least it lifted mine.

The second time I heard the song was when my computer had conked off and I had to visit a nearby CyberCafe. The owner or care taker, a haryanvi guy in his teens, was going berserk DJ'ing his favourite songs in his winamp collection. I dont blame him - music has similar effect on me too.

I must say that subconsciously, I found myself humming the chorus to myself, and in the process, abso-bloody-lutely forgetting to ask either about the song or where I could get a copy of it.

Well without further delay or trying to make it sound more dramatic.

LAAADIESSS & GentleMEN - I present to you the song - "Paaniaali Paani Pyaade" (Just right click and then Save :-)

I still dont know who has sung it or what the main lyrics are about, but I am totally hooked on to the chorus which goes as follows ..

पाणी अाली
पाणी पया दे
ओ रे छोरी िगव मी वाटर
पाणी अाली पाणी पया दे
ओ रे छोरी िगव मी वाटर

Paani-Aali Paani Pyaa dey
O rey Chori Give me Waater
Paani-Aali Paani Pyaa dey
O rey Chori Give me Waater

For those who want a translation - this is haryanvi language ,

Paani-Aali = Water Bearer Girl
Chori = Lass
Paani = Water
Pyaa dey = Get me / Give me a drink
Waater = Water :-)

Note:
1) If you can provide the lyrics and, or translation of the song - then either post them in the comments or let me know.
2) I dont know if the song is copyrighted or under free domain.If you can provide info regarding that it will be appreciated so that I can either continue providing it online or delete the link.
3) To the best of my knowledge the song contains no profanity. ( Most Haryanvi songs contain them - so if you dont understand the language, and intend to either download more songs or buy/listen to some, user discretion is advised )

India Today Group Hacked - Web Site defaced

____________________________________________________________________

Today while researching and reading about luminaries of India, imagine my surprise when I found that the India Today Group site had been hacked.(Technically speaking Hacked/hacking is the wrong word - read what hack truly means by ESR for more on this.)

India Today Group, as culled from Wikipedia (does anybody look beyond wikipedia and google anymore?!!) is an organisation in existence since 1975. The group impressively has 13 magazines, 4 TV channels, 1 newspaper, classical music label, book publishing and India's only book club.

The time I found the site defaced was at about 10:15PM (Indian Standard Time)- 9th June 2007.
The site in itself is intact but the "necessary" default index.html or its various avatars seem to have been replaced by some brazilian script kiddies calling themselves SPYKIDS.

Here is a snapshot of the defaced site.

Alternatively try the following address ( will work as long as site is not fixed)
http://www.indiatodaygroup.com/itoday/millennium/100people/

Being a good guy (depends on how you look at me) I was thinking of calling or mailing the group and informing them about the same, but on the other hand I think I will just sit here and watch how good the admins at India Today group really are. Will they discover it themselves...Do they read and analyze the logs, are they abreast with the latest or are they just collecting their paychecks while they surf around daily. Lets wait and see.

P.S - A request to readers if they read this post. You can check the site but please don't inform the group about defacement.Lets see how long it takes for them to find out and take corrective action.
He he he - The admins are gonna have a busy day today.
